That is a very interesting find cactu!
The macroscopic form is very similar to Psilocybe hoogshagenii var hoogshagenii or P. subhoogshagenii but those species are only known from clay soils, I think the species P. yungensis that cactu mentioned is closer, it would be interesting to see Alan's microscopy of this find! inski..

psilocybe hoogshagenii?
That is an excellent guess however this species has forked cheilocystidia, which is supposed to be lacking in P. hoogshantii.

I think the species P. yungensis that cactu mentioned is closer, it would be interesting to see Alan's microscopy of this find!
I did some microscopy of this using electricity from cactu's truck in the rain in a place with no electricity, there are many pictures but they are still on the sd card in the little canon camera I use for the microscope.
There was some reason that its not P. yungensis but I don't remember what it is. According to Guzman's monograph its an undescribed species, but maybe something has been published more recently that matches well.
Its clearly in Cordisporae. Seems to match P. herrerae pretty well microscopically, except that the caps are quite a bit larger.
On agar it grows extremely slowly and I am not convinced that what I have growing is Psilocybe mycelium at all. Its not a good sign that it makes the agar around it brown. I have several spore prints but they are all very light. Should be enough though. I will try from gill fragments and see if I get anything different.

I have about ten prints in little sterile bags, only sent out 2 so far.

Whoa good to see you here, your print is in the mail, I really hope your research is successful.
Since this was growing on a log I wonder if dowel spawn is a good idea.

P. hoogshagenii supposedly has an undulating margin. Did not see that in these pics. Also the margin will sometimes bruise blue to blue black.
"A variety of this mushroom, P. Hoogshagenii var. convexa is only slightly umbonate, has a convex cap, and is conspecific with P. semperviva". Supposedly more common in the state of Puebla, Mexico also, Oaxaco and Hidalgo - June to August

that will be very dificult to say the log was very old and i suggest you try alder and all hardwood you can find , wont hurt to try as many kind you can . i supose as ovoid are grow as the bethany strain will work perfect for this specie.
