Pearlite in casing
    #11232088 - 10/12/09 09:52 AM (14 years, 6 months ago)

I think it was RR who mentioned adding pearlite to casing to fluff it up (cant think of a better term). Is this beneficial and what ratios should be used?

Use verm to fluff up a casing.

Verm is more fluffy then perlite, perlite is hard and crunchy

Perlite adds lots of air pockets to the casing layer.  Use it at up to 25% by volume in casing layers.  Remember, the casing doesn't just supply moisture, but 'conditions conducive to pinhead formation'.

Pearlite is a combination of cementite and ferrite.  Perlite is what you are looking for, lol.

how is it used?  Is it used in a layer or is it mixed throughout the substrate?

cheeeeeeeeee!
we've been adding perlite to substrates, and noticing the perlite is AMAZING!!!
every fruit you pick has a chunk of perlite RIGHT AT THE BASE

my thinkin on this... "perlite adds a lot of air pockets" ...WET, AIR POCKETS. as soon as the myc hits those perlite chunks where its wet, and SUPER humid air. it produces pins...
lil pin pockets
