 God, I hate birthdays

Mine is coming up. They are so embarrassing because no one ever really knows its my birthday. I'll have like 2 or 3 facebook messages on my wall and i'll have a few awkward phone calls from relatives where I tell them no, I am not doing anything special today, and then we struggle to move through some kind of conversation. Birthdays always make me feel like a loser.

Maybe it's just me, but at around 24 or 25 I realized that I could tell everyone to fuck right off without any real horrible consequenses...
Nowadays, no one bothers me with all their bullshit and my birthday, christmas and most other holidays are spent in peace... I'm rarely invited to stupid weddings I could give a fuck about, showers, parties, etc... people know not to call me.
It's easier when you let friends and family know you are a misanthrope who doesn't give a fuck about traditional hooplah, and you'd be happier to be simply left alone.
I have a few close friends... everyone else can piss off.

I think its all too easy to get stuck in a complex about birthdays, with the idea that its special for us and things should go perfectly our way during the day competing against the fact that for the rest of the world it isn't a big deal because its not their birthday.  In the end the only thing that is making it special is that it was the day we were born, so the bare fact that we're alive is what's to celebrate, not necessarily who remembers or issues of how important we are.

Why don't you make your birthday special by doing something memorable? In your birthday suit? You should get wasted and run around a city naked at night.

I felt the same for oh.. the past five years or so. I only went to major shit and didn't really get out much. I'm making changes now but at the time I was happy to be alone.

Birthdays always make mefeel like I should be obligated to do a traditionally birthday-esque thing, mainly: go to the pub and get schloshed. But I'd much rather get high with a few close friends and do what I do every night.
