I just watched your episode.  I cringed waching you nom those sidewalk fries.

If you want to identify yourself as "Ben from A&E's Intervention", then I don't understand what the problem is.  People see you as you represent yourself to them.  :confused:

Why can't you try to just bury that identity of Ben from Intervention? Can you grow facial hair? Go for a new look and ditch your old identity and develop a new one. I'm not saying get a fake name, but just don't identify as the dude who was on Intervention. Just be simply some dude named Rob Cypher.

Seriously.  Grow a beard, shave your head so you have like a half cm of hair, and get your name legally changed.

And don't show up to the interview on 1600 mg of DXM.  If you CAN still speak normally, that would probably help you.  If you sound 24/7 like you did on the episode, you're probably screwed.

I can see all sides of this argument-

He got himself into drug abuse- but he was from a fucked up home, genius level IQ, had been abused since he was young, and due to his IQ probably felt things much deeper than the average person.

He agreed to be on TV- but it wasn't made clear to him it was for "Intervention".

He should clean himself up- but when he's sober he probably feels such a crushing pit of despair... abusive childhood, having no peers when he was young that were his mental equals, always feeling alone... these things can really fuck a person up for good.

I'm disappointed in everyone being so quick to judge him, but I still think he needs to do more to help himself.  Still, everyone should get off his back until they really know what its like to grow up with the challenges he faced.

Any amateur dealing with the media will quickly lose all control over their image, as it is simplified, cheapened and distorted to make a good dramatic story in order to get higher ratings.

One should strive to avoid the media with the same vigilance with witch one strives to avoid lawyers*. Period.

*So don't compound one error with another one.

Honestly I feel for him being from a fucked up home, but that's not exactly unique nor is it the worst case of abuse I've heard of. The second part of that statement is completely unsubstantiated, and his IQ was apparently inferred from a test taken in grade school which means absolutely nothing to me.

Again this is completely unsubstantiated, based on his testimony here that he might as well have been mobbed by a bunch of goons in the street stating that they were from PBS while shoving cameras in his face. Do you really believe that?

Everyone's got a sob story, the difference is we don't make threads with such a ridiculous premise and then expect everyone to support our perspective unequivocally. I actually think it's more insulting to expect such behavior just because this is a web community with relatively unique proclivities. I wish him the best but it is clear from his argumentative and frankly outlandish responses that he is more interested in feeling correct and validated than he is with moving on with his shit.
