cow dung myth?
    #11230873 - 10/12/09 02:41 AM (8 years, 1 month ago)

everyone i talk to about shrooming in cow pastures say i need to go to an all natural or an organic fed cow pasture if i want to have any luck.
they claim that the cheaper feeds contain some sort of chemical that kills the shrooms that grow in the cow dung.

whats the truth behind this myth?

The truth behind this myth is that it's a myth.

most of the time while the cows are in their pasture they eat pasture grass.
the grasses they eat will sometimes have mushroom spores on them wich survives the digestion process and comes out in the shit, leaving behind a perfect substate for those spores.

Pure bollocks. No farmer would be so daft as to put fungicides in cattle feed, because traces will inevitably end up in both milk and meat. Moreover, it costs money and doesn't increase revenues or reduce other costs.

Welcome to the Shroomery, Grizzly.

Some fields don't have shrooms because people are forgetting to flick the caps.  It has nothing to do with organic feed.

And that's a complete myth as well.  Flicking the caps does little as does using mesh or a gay basket.

Way to mix the collection, Charlie.

Do you have a credible source for this? As I understand, this is a discussion in which neither the naysayers nor the protagonists seem to be able to present data to support their claims.
