I haven't posted a new topic in the shoomery for months, but wanted to let everyone know what I've discovered a life-changing album: Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun. Now, what it made me realize is that people mostly trip to "classic" psychedelic music, i.e. it HAS to be Pink Floyd or Grateful Dead or [insert generic classic band here]. My hobby is to introduce contemporary (call it indie why not) trippy music to my friends and they always love it. So I wanna see what the shroomery has to offer! The new Animal Collective album for example, is quite famous by now and extra trippy/swirly - but no one ever trips to it! I think it's a shame and I want this topic to be a posting of stuff from 1990-now of modern trippy albums!! My short list:
Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun (try the track "star".. NOW) Manitoba - Up in Flames Caribou - Andorra Explosions In The Sky - Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place (everyone should know this one...)
and the track Animal Collective - "Summer Clothes" is essential.

my favorite modern psych bands are MGMT and Yeasayer
if you look beyond MGMT's radio songs, you will discover some amazing music.
Yeasayer is in their own category all together. experimental, sort of underground. check them out on youtube.
MGMT-4th Dimensional Transition
MGMT - Of Moons, Birds & Monsters
MGMT-Future Reflections
MGMT-The Handshake (this one is about taking LSD, the first 2:30 are great, and then they repeat the same line for a while, which i dislike.)
Yeasayer- Wait for the Summertime
Yeasayer-Waves
cant find the studio versions of my other fav yeasayer songs, theres two of them...but they do have a lot of live versions if you want to explore.

Merriweather Post Pavilion! Of course! That's my album of choice when I trip. MGMT and Black Moth Super Rainbow are musts for tripping as well.

Heh, I actually do agree with you on this one. I honestly think I did not enjoy one song of Peaceblaster. But, like you said... I have to love their older stuff. I guess anything that dates before Peaceblaster is good imo.

Nice! I was actually going to go to Rothbury with a friend it's first year, but he bailed because he got an offer to go to Bonaroo instead. I eventually ended up seeing STS9 at Wakarusa this year and it was decent I'd have to say. I enjoyed their first night more than the second, but both were very good. I can't get enough of that Ramone & Emiglio... beautiful. I'm not sure if they played Grow though... I was a little out of it and was not paying too close attention to what song they were exactly playing. But it was all really good to hear them. Unfortunately Shpongle was playing while STS9 was and I chose Tribe over them. I regret not going to see Shpongle, because I had seen Tribe the night before.

Haha love the Groove!
String Cheese Incident is about to be back, I can't wait for them to tour again. STS9 is pretty good, Pnuma Trio, EOTO, Shpongle, Ott, The Malah, Particle, Lotus.
