Is this to early for picking?
    #11227798 - 10/11/09 04:44 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

http://

My first shroom..this one fell over and began splitting so i picked it.
My question is i have 2 test jars going before i tackle a bulk grow...so does the cap need to open up more to pick? i seen what i thought was the veil break but it seems like the cap should be opening up...also can i get a print from this?

A better question is why are my shrooms so long and skinny?

Answer: Need more air exchange.

But as far as picking goes, thats not a bad time to pick. No sense letting it open and sporulate, making a mess.

You should clone it. Then you will be able to start from viable tissue rather than the crap shoot of spores.

But you could do a tissue clone...

this thread is pure comedy.
you need to dry them. or they will rot. that is probably the green. if it is on the fruits that are still growing then you have a larger problem..

Why do you think multispore is a crapshoot?  The specimen pictured looks bad due to bad fae, he hasn't even said he tested this batch for potency or how the rest even grew- so why bother cloning some random specimen?  ~P~

these were in a jar with holes drilled in the top...i also fanned the jars 3or 4times a day...thats not enough FAE?..thats why i am starting small..

definitely room for improvement..
consider a fruiting chamber. there are many different varieties.

Just because it grew poorly with bad FAE doesn't mean the genetics are bad and it shouldn't be cloned. The fact that it grew in less than adequate conditions makes it worthy of cloning to me. You could start a new culture right away and colonized jars a lot soon than if you started with spores. So in addition to finding more superior genetics, it would be worth my time to clone that specimen and make more while I got the conditions dialed in more appropriately.

look up a shotgun terrarium. It's very low maintenance, cheap, and give good humidity.

i've built a fruiting chamber already..i was hoping to get a print off of this batch but i think i'll just order a print to get it rolling..i was thinking about taking this out of the jar and putting in my chamber..like a cake..is this wise?should i dunk it first? there are a ton of pins in there

Cuz it'll be an isolate, so there won't be multiple colonies of incompatible strains trying to compete/fuse together.

You could just as easily go to the store and buy some agar.

Another easy route would be to cut out a piece of mycelium, drop it in some peroxide and transfer it to another jar of spawn.

Why buy more genetics if everything u need is right in front of you?

A clone is not an isolate.

Yeah I've heard this argument many times and I think it's a pointless/moot argument.

First of all, cloned tissues don't always sector out on agar. It's only sometimes.

Secondly, there's possibly more than one explanation for that sectoring. Quite possibly it means slightly different strains co-operated. But there are other possibilities.

Third, who cares if it's not really a single strain, but 2 or 3 or even 4. It's so far from multispore that it's close enough for all intents and purposes.

Fourth, if the multiple strains present in a clone are similar enough to produce a nice looking fruit, then they're close enough to call them the same strain.

So if I want to call a clone an isolate I will, and you can just cope with it.
