Alan Watts
    #11214185 - 10/09/09 09:47 AM (14 years, 6 months ago)

Forgive me if this in the wrong place.

I want to get into Alan watts but I am unsure which of his books to buy. I figured this community might be able to help me out with that.

I've read "This is It" by him, but nothing else. I've been eyeing "Behold the Spirit," "Become what you are," and "Does it matter?"

Any recommendations on which Alan Watts book would be a good starter/introduction to his thought?

Try "The Wisdom of Insecurity".

"Don't believe everything you think". -Anom.

" All that lives was born to die"-Anom.

With much wisdom comes much sorrow,
The more knowledge, the more grief.
Ecclesiastes circa 350 BC

I haven't read any of his books but he was & is great

"The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are"

That one sounds pretty good, Self knowledge is at the heart of what he talks about

I liked "the way of zen". I want to read "psychotherapy east and west", "what is zen?" and "what is tao?". There is a lot of his stuff I don't like.

I do and I prefer it. I seem to be able to focus better and it's easy to stop and think about something and then move on. And if I always like the voice I hear.

For real, especially when dealing with this kind of subject matter

If your reading the words of a Sage you only need to find the one sentence that grabs you...ifits left on the page its useless, most books just stay on the page

His book Om: Creative Meditations was one I enjoyed.
