According to Plato you've been trapped in a cave all your life.
If you emerge from it and into the light, you've never before used your eyes in this way.
It's blinding. You stumble around for a while until you adjust.
Then, you truly experience reality for the first time.

I don't know if I've broken out of it yet. Sometimes, in very introspective moments, the whole world ceases to exist, time stops, and I feel free.

Great film, too bad the other two ruined the mythology. Check out the Animatrix if any of you guys haven't, well worth it. In David Icke's Brixton lecture he goes more in depth about this kind of stuff and references The Matrix several times, life changing stuff, highly recommended.

Did you guys know The Matrix was actually originally called The Third Eye? Warner Bros simply stole the script and adjusted it a little bit that is why the two other movies don't make any sense anymore.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophia_Stewart

And they stole Terminator too..  I don't know, maybe it's legit or maybe she's just trying to make a quick buck. She didn't even win any money from the case.

I hate it when people say ideas were "stolen". The idea has been around before movies and and comics were made about it. and there's tons of examples that circle around the same idea. Dark City, Ghost in the Shell, Paprika, Waking Life,  every David Lynch film..

why don't you just go ahead and say that any movie with a "romantic twist" in it is a rip off of Gone with the Wind.

I wasn't really responding to what you said. I was just speaking at everyone who thinks the Matrix ripped off other shit.

I see the movie as the robots representing the system ( government ) And Neo waking up and learning how to operate above the Law (by not operating in the matrix) and challenge  authority who doesnt want that to happen.

It is all about waking up and realizing that we a living in a world / culture that has brainwashed into thinking that we have free will, when we really don't...

not until we wake up, trip and understand that we make so many unsubstantiated assumptions about the world every day...

Assumptions we have been indoctrinated in to and hand me down beliefs that we have been trained to accept as human fate or reality by the ones who have a vested interest in us being asleep. Freedom of thought or prison of the mind?
