Simple agar question
    #11223293 - 10/10/09 11:08 PM (8 years, 2 months ago)

ok i stuck a piece of MYC from a grain on an agar plate..

2 days later it shot out an arm like a ryzo, so i cut it off and put it on a different plate (looking to sterilize the sample more) is that OK..

i have been growing for a while but agar is new to me..

:pm: me if you have questions about lasers

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

is it kk to chop a piece of the ryzo looking growth off and transfer it to a new dish.. will it continue to grow (im assuming yes) or do i have to wait for it to fan out?

Oh. It'll grow.
You might be better off waiting to see if it's going to sector, though. If you don't it just has to sector out on the new dish.

The primary reason we use agar is to isolate a culture away from contaminants. I doubt you will have trouble isolating Cubensis Mycelium away from contamination.

Your agar medium should be sterile and kept that way until you inoculate with said culture/spores. Don't open your dishes unless you are going to make transfers. If you don't have a Flowhood a Glovebox works fine, just very space restricting.
