Vancouver Island Mushroom Photos - Plz Help Identify

Hi all, I took some photos while taking a hike at Goldstream park on Vancouver Island. The area is close to the mouth of a river which salmon spawn in, and these mushrooms were all located in close proximity to each other near a waterfall, a few hundred feet away from the ocean. I was taken back by the diversity that I saw and took the best pictures I could. Please have a look! I'm looking to identify them enough to know something about them out of curiosity.

off topic, but I read today there's a RARE mushroom that (only?) grows on arbutus.  Sorry, don't remember what anything else about it tho...but could make hunting fun.  I'll try to find the ref again in my history.

Ahh neat, i briefly looked up Russula and I think you're right about that one. I was really taken back with the diversity. Probably 80% of the mushrooms here were found in an area 10' x 10' , so they were all close together but obviously are quite different. I've learned that the Pacific Northwest is great for Mycology and Vancouver Island seems to be insane in this regard!

yeah PNW is great for it. i was in vancouver this summer and reallly wanted to check out the island and go hunting but didnt get the chance. thats a really great find you got. thanks for posting =)

ok "The rare mushroom, Tubaria punicea (Christmas naucoria) only grow from the hollowed and rotting centres of ancient arbutus trees. These dark red mushrooms of late fall and early winter have been found on arbutus trees in Metchosin." -1st google hit

I saw so many russulas today that I actually took to throwing them at trees. They explode quite dramatically when still crisp :smile:

i think ive seen this mushroom!!

i was in scout troop when i was a kid, the arbutus was our tree... 1st Arbutus Scouts.. anyway, we always went to crazy arbutus groves, i dont think those mushrooms are as rare as people think, or ive been lucky!!

im definately going to look for some next hunt!!
