A believer, an agnostic and an atheist are in a lifeboat
    #11221757 - 10/10/09 04:28 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

And there is only room and supplies for two. Provided all are of relatively equal strength and fighting ability, which guy would get tossed overboard?

If they are all of equal fighting strength then none could get thrown overboard and they would all die.  Its like the hungry donkey who is equidistant from two piles of food and thus dies of starvation - something needs to break the symmetry.

Maybe I am missing the point...

I think the atheist or the believer kills the other first. The agnostic will sit on the sidelines and wait to see who wins.

Since atheists have superior morals, he would sacrifice himself.

Why can't they take turns in the boat, fish and catch rain water. Then they all could survive.

Survival is overrated.

Moot question, the agnostic would still be on the sinking ship trying to make a decision.

One of them could walk on water if their faith were only strong enough...

actually, now that i think about it, "surviving" is shitty

existing/being, is great, they take no effort, therefore, you have no responsibility, therefore, you have nothing to worry about or stress over

but "surviving"...that sounds pessimistic...survival is just the continuance of life by the avoidance of death...its like your existence is plagued by neurotic paranoia since you are on a constant mission to avoid death...

believing you are existing is so much more simple and to the core...

believing you are surviving is like believing you have something to always worry about

the atheist would get tossed

the believer has faith in the unknown.
the agnostic admits he don't know
and the atheist keeps telling the other two they're both wrong.

Really? Does the atheist put on a white shirt and back tie and bicycle over to the other side of the boat and pester the other two and shove pamphlets in their faces?

no. the atheist is the one who makes picket signs with pictures of  dead babies, government buildings, jesus pornos,  and war;  then stands outside the church wondering why people are yelling at them.

they have no dress code.

As no one decides to sacrifice and you are all dying, the agnostic fires up a fat doobie and passes it to the believer...
