Brown Cluster
    #11221445 - 10/10/09 03:27 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Habitat:
Found in Southern PA off the base of a stump, there were a few clusters of the same mushroom around the stump.

Gills:
Tan, attached gills

Stem:
3-5in length, -1/4in-1/2 diameter, tan with dark areas, rivets in stem--feels spongy, hollow but somewhat thick

Cap:
1in-3in diameter, golden brown color (reminds me of potatoes), texture is smooth, some caps are cracked.

Spore print color:
Awaiting...

Bruising:
Nothing noticeable.

Other information:
It may be just me, but I think mushroom smells a little spicy.

Awesome cluster.

I love to see any species with large clusters, or any form of larger fruitings.

Cool find! :headbanger:

These things are just destroying lawns in my area.  Huge clusters.  Kinda funny.

I agree, (amarillaria tabescens) ringless honey mushroom, just found some myself.  south east virginia.  edible after careful cooking.  if it has rings may be mellea or cepistipes.  cepistipes not good to eat. spores should be pale cream to white.

Yeah I read somewhere that Armillaria sp in general are pretty destructive mushrooms.
