Some Questions About Wires And Keyboards And Whatnot
    #11220013 - 10/10/09 12:04 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

so here's the story:

i played a great show the other day. showered in complements. i play a yamaha pf80 keyboard. which is exactly 1 million lbs and requires two thousand people to carry it.

anyway, i played outside and had everything ready to put in my friend's car. we shoved my piano into the backseat and the stand in the trunk and headed back to home.

we had two people crammed in the backseat with the monolithic instrument, and when we stopped at a wawa to grab a snack, we picked up the driver's boyfriend. so i had to take out the keyboard and put it in the trunk.

after we dropped everyone off and arrived at my place. we all carried the piano back into the house. after they left and i was setting it up where it usually is, i found that half of the long power cord was missing. it had ripped off apparently since it was old.

ive called everyone and no one knows where it is.

my question is this.

if i find a similar two pronged 120v power cord can i rip off the end, tie the copper wires together, plug it in and have it work?

also, how would i find a power cord such as this to rip in half

any help would be hot

Better to replace the cord than try to splice it. If you aren't comfortable with this, seek out a TV or appliance repair guy.
Pay the money to have this done correctly, you'll be glad you did.

Yeah or at the very least solder the wires together, the twist and tape is unsafe and won't last forever. Best bet is as already stated, replace the entire power wire.

Man just go to a music store and and get a replacement power adapter. or if it's just a straight up cable you could just splice any power cable end onto it, or have a friend do it who's more comfortable at electronics repair.

you can do that or just get a new adapter. My dog chewed through one of mine recently and I replaced it with one at a lower voltage, still works. The dog also chewed through a vacuum cord and it's just taped back together, might be a fire hazard, best to just get a replacement.

If it's something you use pretty often, and it sounds like it is, the best bet would be to replace it. You could solder a wire on there but tying it would be pretty ghetto.
