cook cactus in a pot. How does it matter what heat source you are using? cook over a wood fired stove and it wouldnt make a difference.

Odds are, somewhere out there in cyberspace there is probably an estimate of how long one of those cans last........ good possibility it is right on the side of the containter.

Get a lot of fucking gas dude, just get what you can afford. Try to not have the flame too high so you don't waste too much gas. Get it to boiling point, then turn the heat down.
Really... how can you ask that question? It CAN be cooked with camping gas, but honestly, there are so many variables that can affect how much gas you consume to cook something for a certain amount of time.
Get some big tanks, and as much gas as you can afford. Or do it boyscout style.
To run it for 4 hours I can see that using up a lot of gas, just be efficient with it and be prepared, or like I said do it boyscout style.

Yah, personally I think getting an old camping pot and just dumping it in the middle of the fire (well supported of course) would be your best best. Less hassle and worry.

What if you burn it down to coals, then put it on top of the coals. You can always add more fuel to it, or throw some sticks/small logs down to support the pan higher from the base of the coal/flame.
Or you could just bring some extra camping gas, I don't think this is overly complicated.
edit: On another note if you're so worried about it not working, why not just prep it before you go and take it with you?

I guess you don't realize, that it depends on several different things such as:
- type of burner used
- what setting the burner is on
- etc etc etc
Jeeze man, you might not need to do any mescaline.

Be nice, he's not an idiot. It's an honest question, likely didn't need to be asked, but it's still valid. My advice is just to get some extra gas man. I don't think anyone here knows how long it'll last, though I can say one of those bigger canisters I've probably used about an hour so far on a decently high setting, though that doesn't explain much I know.

Camping gas is cheap. I'm pretty sure it's like 5-8$ for one of those big caninsters. I'd think 3 at most would be good, though you might even be ok with 1 I don't know.

i cook mine over an open wood fire started without petrol products. works better than the stove imo. more work, but it's somehow more rewarding. don't ask me just try it!

You certainly can control the heat of a cooking fire! Remember that it is possible to be completely self sustained in the wilderness. I'm not saying that everyone _should_ know how to do that, but since it sounds like you are going camping, I just thought I'd throw in my $0.02.
