More WA Woodland Psilocybes...
    #11218450 - 10/10/09 01:24 AM (8 years, 1 month ago)

Was out checking a spot I found lots of matsutake at late last season yesterday, either it's still too early or it's just not a good year for them there, as I saw no signs of any.  But on the hike in I passed a spot that was just screaming Psilocybe at me, it looked similar to where I had my last woodland psilo find.  Just about kept walking, but I figured I'd take a quick look there and within 10 feet I found some more Psilocybes, go figure.  Picked a couple to check for a pellicle and noticed a little possible bruising on one specimen.  Left them and headed on to the matsi patches.  Stopped again on the way back, by then there was fairly pronounced bluing on the ones I had pulled earlier, so I picked a few to take back.  I don't think it's the same as the last species, these are larger, more robust and blue fairly readily/noticeably.  They looked to be growing off a fallen log, presumably doug fir, in the interface between the log and the soil, in an area that had been flooded by runoff earlier in the year...

Was able to get a few prints this time, if anyone capable is interested in doing some microscopy/playing around with them in culture I might be able to donate a sample to the cause...  Thinking maybe silvatica or pelliculosa, but that's just a guess.  Pretty wild finding another Psilocybe out in the woods like that again, better than going back with nothing though

:awesome:

Were these at about the same elevation as the others you found?

I need to get up in the mountains.

Nope, these were lower, 2500'-3000', further north than my last find and further east of the cascades...
