fanning pre-pinning
    #1121688 - 12/08/02 09:10 AM (15 years, 4 months ago)

for air exchanges i have been just fanning 3 times a day, but i just read some where that fanning this much can actually delay pinning, b/c co2 tells the shrooms to pin... Should i cut back on my fanning until the shrooms start growing, or is that b.s.?

i think it was somewhere on mycotopia, i'll try and find the link gimme a sec...
-----------
here is what hippie says about fanning (the thread is actually about the advantages of pinning invitro but.. ) "1] the jar traps some co2, which is needed to help trigger pinning. often newbies who birth immediately find themselves waiting weeks before pins come, because they're fanning their tanks, which keeps co2 low, which slows pinning."

and here is the link to the thread (hippies comment is 2nd from the bottom)

I?ll tell you what?s the case:

To trigger pinning, casings or cakes need three things:
the introduction of fresh air exchanges (and thus, reduction of CO2 buildup), the introduction of light, and the reduction in temperature.
Now I?m fully aware that some strains of P. cubensis do pin at high levels of CO2, but this is more an exception than the rule.

Don't you also have to raise the humidity in addition to the three things that you stated?

The more you fan the better. It gets rid of excess CO2, so you want to fan as much as possible(5x a day).

Yes, high humidity is required. But it does not trigger pinning.

All i know and experienced is that you don?t want high CO2 levels for pinning.
