The DC Police Chief fears PCP nowadays is more potent.
WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- A disturbing trend is on the rise in the nation's capital.
DC Police Chief Cathy Lanier says she's concerned about this frightening trend.
Its street names are angel dust or rocket fuel because of the way it makes users feel invincible.
Lanier, "What's disturbing is the exceptionally high levels of people testing positive for PCP. Where the normal positive was in the range of 150 to 200 levels tests are coming back five times that.
Lanier spoke on WTOP Thursday morning about PCP regaining popularity. She says, "I don't know if it's higher consumption or stronger but it's behind recent violent crimes, murders and police shootings."
Doctors in the emergency room at Howard University Hospital say they've also seen an increase in patients coming in high on PCP. They would see one or two patients and now it's five or six a week.
Dr. Lyle Campbell says, "They're back in vogue along with cocaine, heroin and PCP. We're seeing a lot, a lot of PCP."
Campbell can't point to any one explanation to PCP's return to popularity, but he says it's readily available, inexpensive and extremely addictive.
He says the trend is discouraging and doctors have to take extra precautions whenever they know a PCP patient is arriving. They get security and a room ready and often times they have to be restrained.
Campbell, "We never know what you're going to get. They can have seizures and can even lead to death."
9NEWS NOW checked the surrounding counties. Prince George's and Fairfax are still checking the numbers while Montgomery does report an uptick in PCP use. Loudoun has not seen an increase.

My friends had the unfortunate experience of buying weed that was laced with pcp. I've never done it, but I can't see why anyone would.

It's back. I remember 10 years ago I couldn't find it ANYWHERE. 5 years ago it started popping up again; and now its popping up even more.

I didn't know it has medicinal potential, and if it does, that's great, but from a drug taking perspective, I've done dxm, and if it's anything similar to that, which from what I can gather it is, it doesn't seem like it would be a good experience. I had this strange sensation in my face, and yes I felt fucked up, but not in a good way. In a rather "dirty" way, not really sure how to describe it. Overall, I didn't have any major revelations, and despite my positive surroundings, I didn't really enjoy it.
Also, my friend told me about his pcp experience, and he said that he was unable to chew gum and walk at the same time. Why would you want to bring retardation like that on yourself, hah.
Not saying you can't have a good time on angel dust, but the overall vibe that I've gotten from disassociatives is negative.

ive known several people who have done it, knowingly or not... and about half of them liked it, the other half not so much.
when i got raided i actually ended up being in a holding cell with 2 people who had done pcp i think they had done it within a month, well one was a kid the other was an older gentleman who had been doing it for many many years, talking to a kid about it, and they didnt make it seem so bad, though i got a look at both of them, and decided i wasnt taking life lessons from the either.

Wet and pcp are actually two separate things.
Wet is formaldehyde (which often gets mistakenly called pcp)
PCP is a ketamine like tranquilizer / psychotic that is synthesized by the hell's angels and is often mistakenly called by city folks "wet" which leads to confusion in the matter.

I've always thought "getting wet" mean smoking pcp also. But why would anyone do formaldehyde? Doesn't sound like that would be fun either...
