No, that wealth brought 70% of the world's population out of destitution and into the middle class.  It brought technological change, entrepreneurship, and cheap household appliances & convienance goods for the masses.

Capitalism brought all that.  Capitalism trumped mercantalism and thus brought on our modern world.
