do you have a picture? It's probably mycelium, if it's grey then it could be cobweb. Are these grain jars or pf cakes?

Its rare to have cobweb in jars especially pf jars. There will most always be wispy myc that covers alittle of the dry verm layer its perfectly normal nothing to worry about

I think u mean you opened a fully colonized pf-tek brf jar and saw white fluff in the dry verm barrier.

This is normal. It's mycelium.

That's what she said. I provided her the links. If she's astute enough, let her read them and come to her own conclusions. I'm all for helping out, but I also believe in rewarding those who put the effort in to earn it.

Thanks! I have to disagree with your sig however, but I cannot prove it.

I've been putting my cakes at room temps for 12 hours (~70-73 degrees) and then when I come home I put it outside (~75-83 degrees and very humid).

The jars definitely sped up, however I can't prove it. I've read that 86 degrees is the perfect temp and because the mycelium itself will give off about 5 degrees of heat, 80-81 is perfect.

Higher temps like 86 are also better for other things to grow as well.. incubating at 86 is kinda old info Room temp is fine even if its alittle slower its safer and not so complicated

I concur. I forgot to mention that I mostly put my jars that are like 50%+ colonized out in the 80 degree weather.

think of it this way
if your jars are too cold below 70 they take forever to colonize
if they are too hot then contams have a better chance
of taking ahold of what ever is in your jars

Contams have much less chance with the pf tek. The verm layer, if done right, is damn near idiot proof. Additionally, if you let the mycelium colonize 50-75% of the jar, it stands a better chance.

I'm not saying 70-75 is wrong. It'll work. I'm just saying I've believe I've been able to speed up my process by doing my 12/12 regiment.
