Can someone narrow this down for me?
    #11216015 - 10/09/09 02:56 PM (14 years, 6 months ago)

Habitat: Woods, just off a trail near a large river.  Damp, lots of leaf litter and plants nearby.  Growing from the ground/leaf litter next to some small decays branches.

Gills: varying shades of grey gills, not attached.

Stem: 2-4 inches.  White.  Some had a "groove" traveling from top to bottom.  Fibrous.  Breaks apart fairly easily.

Cap: 1 to 2.5 inches across.  Off white with a slightly darker umbo.

Spore print color:
See pics.  Smoky black or black with possible hint of something else--brown or purple.  Having trouble discerning it exactly.  I don't want to say jet black, though.

Bruising: Nothing significant.  Bruising slightly darker as it dries.

Other information: Scent--not too pleasant--cant place it though.  Decaying smell.

Sorry for the shitty pics.  I didn't foresee this one giving me such an issue.  I feel bad for plucking these.  Admittedly, I initially thought they were something they're not.

These are more fragile and lack blue staining.  There are a few other macroscopic differences which are difficult to describe but are easy to notice if you stare at enough Psilocybes and Psathyrella.

Psilocybe has a pileipellis that is a cutis while Psathyrella has one that is a hymeniderm.
