pinning problem need a few educated answers
    #1121565 - 12/08/02 05:41 AM (14 years, 8 months ago)

this is the first time i have posted anything so bear with me. i have 48 cakes in three terrariums and they all look very healthy. basically there is very aggressive mycelialgrowth occuring and no pins yet. i dunked all of the cakes 8 days ago for 24 hours and the humidity is at 95-maybe 100%. at this point i am a tad bit worried that its all about to go to shit. the temperature is a bit high 85-90 degrees and i suspect that this is the problem. so i now have my air pumps running non stop to hopefully drop the temp. the cakes have lots of fuzzy balls all over them and some even have rizmorphic-like fingers reaching off in every direction. is this normal? does anyone know of an efficient way to drop the temp. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. if you need more detailed info on the symtoms my cake are showing then let me know. i just really want them to start fruiting. am i just being impatient?

You are being impatient.
You`re temperatures are too high.
Your pumps are providing warm air = warmer terrarium.
Otherwise it`s fine.

like I said, your pumps will be heating up and pumping warm air into your chambers.
So turn them off for a few hours at a time to allow the temperature to drop.
Leave your terrarium open for a while to also drop the temperature.
Put a glass of ice water in the terrariums as well.

that makes sense. actually i already put a bag of ice in the box with my air pumps in hopes that it would cause cool air to be pumped into the terrariums. i'll go turn the pumps off and do the glass of ice water thing. thanx.

is the whole room temp that or just inside the
boxes? The only real way to get the room heat
down is to bring in cooler air,or look at were the
heat is coming from i.e lighting, electrical stuff ext
But of course your in texas so i suppose its just
dam hot there.Have you thought of an air conditioner?
to drop overall heat levels?
P.s got enuff tats tx

actually its cold here in tx right now. yes the whole closet is warm. i have an air purifier running in there alot so that motor may be the cause of the temp. i feel like a damn retard for asking all of this and the answers have been quite obvious. should my cakes look the way they do.? if i drop the temp. successfully what should i expect to see? if the temp were to remain the same what would eventually happen?

Well from what you explained it would sound like primordia has begun forming which will soon convert to hyphal knotts and pins.
So be patient and continue fanning and misting.

i've had the one 1qt. jar of ice water in each terrarium now for about 4 or 5 hours, i turned off the air purifier and the air pumps and things have changed for the better the overall room temp is down to 78 degrees and the temps. inside the terrariums is down to 80 degrees. everything is cool now i hope and maybe i'll see some pins real soon and show the results. thanks for all of the help.
