Pot Bomb?....[WA]
    #11215447 - 10/09/09 03:26 PM (8 years, 11 days ago)

October 9th, 2009 - The Bellingham Herald

HANNAH BOSTWICK - THE BELLINGHAM HERALD

BELLINGHAM - Washington State Patrol troopers discovered what at first appeared to be a pipe bomb in a 1996 Chevrolet Camaro during a routine traffic stop at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at Northwest Drive and Sterling Drive.

Troopers called in a bomb squad to investigate the device, which ended up being a 12-inch PVC pipe filled with stems and pieces of marijuana, said Trooper Keith Leary.

Northwest Drive and the surrounding area were closed to traffic until about 5:30 p.m., said WSP Sgt. Mark Dennis.

The three people in the car were arrested on drug charges and warrants for other offenses, Dennis said.

Haha the hapless stoners probably just thought they devised a clever smell-proof container.

I'm confused.

Does the butane leach out something from the PVC?

Some people say it does and some say it doesn't... In fact, many people use PVC...

I don't.

How did the police "discover" this pipe during a routine traffic stop?  Was it visible?  Did the driver give permission to search the car?  Why are people so stupid?

I'd rather use PVC than metal for that extraction.  Static electricity + tube full of butane (that's fuming out) == boom.

Cops had a valid reason for searching the vehicle:shrug:
