Watch the moon get bombed, live

It's happening at NASA's website right now, at http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html. They're about 35 minutes in.

And to clarify some things that they've gone over already: -The project is extremely low in cost relative to NASA's budget -The projectile is impacting with the same force that meteors hit it regularly, the only difference is that we know exactly when and where the impact is going to be so it can be monitored. -It is a vital step to establishing a base on the moon for further exploration of space
Just because some foreign government established that there might be water there decades ago is not a reason for us to neglect collecting our own data, especially if we want to put a base there. Also, this isn't scifi stuff that should be put off until some fantasy future date; we're doing this now, so that maybe, one hundred years from now, we'll have the technology to start moving people off the earth when it is far more overpopulated.

Not the moon (even though it is thought to contain many natural resources), it's just going to be a first step. Either way, we're going to need to either start colonizing the other planets or start a massive eugenics program, because at this rate of population growth we're going to be fucked.

Cameras don't generally continue working after slamming into solid rock.
But they did just say that the images, taken from earth, will be available shortly.

Well there was several minutes of footage of nothing before the other space craft impacted, dick. I hope the pictures from earth actually show something.

OK, you answered that except for the problem that the other planets in our system are uninhabitable and providing infrastructure for artificial enclosed environments large enough to make any difference to the worlds population will be as impossible in 100 years as it is now.

We make aquariums for habitable environments for aquatic creatures. You think we can't do the same for our selves?

Last night i rolled nicely. Feel a little shitty right now, but one of my room mates will come in here with a blunt or bong bowl. Get drunk as hell in the evening.

Eventually, it might be possible to terraform Mars into an inhabitable place. But the point is that if there is water on the moon then astronauts don't have to haul large, very heavy loads of water from Earth through space 230,000 miles to the moon to do research or whatever they have to do.
