can't get to fruit
    #11213431 - 10/09/09 07:54 AM (8 years, 2 months ago)

hi, i got a PRE-INOCULATED kit (europe) of cubes and i took a couple samples for agar cloning. the mycelium grew over the holes with fuzzy hair but i think this must have delayed the fruiting. it has light and i leave the window open during the night so it gets lower temps.

what else can i do?
should i case to cover the mycelia that surfaced? (i'd rather not mess with it more than necessary)
should i cold-shock in the fridge?

Usually the kits we have in europe are rather worthless. My tip for you would be to buy a print and start one up yourself. Costs like 1/10th of the price and works alot better.

But keep in mind that it can take up to three weeks before those kits show fruits. And just because you don't see any myc growing it doesn't mean there's no action.

You should provide a little more information about your setup for a more informed answer, but I can tell you that you shouldn't cold shock. It serves no purpose for cubes and may actually delay fruiting. Does the kit provide some sort of automated air exchange? If not, you need to fan it at least a few times a day. It could also be that the substrate isn't fully colonized yet. Like I said, more information about the setup and pictures would help.

i already got spores going side by side.
i see myc growing on the surface, just no pinning and it has been more than a week. maybe it's not cold enough? also the other day the surface mycelium got condensation on it and i let it in fresh air a couple hours so it could dry off.

patch with a layer of coir/verm, expose the case on fruiting conditions with more air exchange and humidity in a grow box

What are your temperatures? Cubes are a tropical species of mushroom. They don't need cold weather or cold shocking.

Even if you see myc growing on the surface, that doesn't neccessarily mean the entire substrate is colonized. With a filter patch bag you shouldn't need to fan, but the extra air won't hurt. You don't need a casing layer either. One of my biggest mistakes on my first few grows was thinking something was wrong and making unneccessary adjustments when I didn't see pins right away. I'm guessing there is no problem at all. Give it a week or two more before you start stressing.

Dude, those growboxes are idiotproof. Just fan it twice a day and wait. It may take up to three weeks before you'll see any fruit.

you should take your print, make a few syringes from it, then use the syringe to make a LC.  from there your options are limitless.  you can use the LC to make another LC or you can use it to directly knock up jars of grains, wbs, or brf cakes and they will grow really fast due to the fact that the mycelium is already established

a week isn't really that long.. just continue on for a bit more.. like said above, up to 3 weeks.. and that is just to fully colonize and start showing pins.. but pics would help

Yeah, of course. =) But my point was (although that may have been lost) that one of these boxes costs like £30 while you can get a print for £1 and up..

In Europe we got this free spore ring, where you send 1 euro and/or one-several prints and then you get something else in return. Works like a charm.
Not sure if providing a link will break the rules or not, so I'll wait with that.. but with some logic and google I'm sure you'll find it.

ok so it did fruit but not many mushrooms and quite separated in time.

so now i have this big one that broke the veil and other small ones coming in. what should i do? cut/pull the big one and leave the others or wait for all to mature and break the veil and then cut?

It doesn't look like the mycelium has consolidated the entire substrate.  :kingtard:

pick the big one.. wait for the others (will be a short time), dunk the sub, try again.

Like Florida said, in the lower right corner of the tray, it doesnt look completely colonized.. but I would continue on.

You can pick the big one and let the others grow.

it's a pre-colonized kit that came with a layer of verm. casing on top.
the mycelium that's showing appeared after i took a couple samples from the surface but most of the surface was covered with verm. casing.

it must be about 3-4 inches maybe.

should i pull or cut the big one? will this stress the pinning or the growth of the others?
