Eleven Arrested in Oxycodone Bust

Johnson City vice officers have arrested 11 people in a Oxycodone drug ring that stretches from Florida to the Tri-Cities and police are looking for more suspects.
“It’s just the tip of the iceberg,” said one of the city’s undercover Special Investigations Squad detectives.

During the investigation, officers observed suspects handing off drugs at various locations, including a convenience store parking lot on Boones Creek Road near Interstate 26.

At this point in the investigation, narcotics officers have seized more than 2,500 Oxycodone pills ranging in strength from 5 mg. to 80 mg. with a street value of around $75,000, officers said.

“This is significant,” vice officers said of the bust.

Because of the amount of drugs involved, officers said it will likely be prosecuted under the Project Safe Neighborhood Program, through which the city funds a prosecutor to take gun and drug crimes in the city to federal court.

Officers said the suspects obtain most of the Oxycodone from Florida pain clinics.

“They are doctor shopping,” he said. “They make doctor appointments at pain clinics in Florida and get their prescriptions from doctors down there.

“They get them filled and the bring the pills up here where the street value is a whole lot higher. And they’re obtaining the prescriptions fraudulently.”

The suspects arrested in the investigation and their charges are:

He killed himself through stupidity.

At no time did one single oxycodone molecule point a gun at his head and force him to abuse them.

Responsibility is all in the hands of the user.
