A tale told by an Idiot
    #11210658 - 10/08/09 08:18 PM (14 years, 6 months ago)

There has been a lot of death in my life over the last few weeks, first a great aunt of old age, then a good friend of heroin, then another friend of cancer, then a friends father of cancer, then my wife's father narowly escaped after suffering a major heart attack and a friends mother nearly died of blood hemorrhaging .

All these people were born but the blink of an eye ago, relatively speaking. They were here one day, doing their thing, their lives feeling full of important tasks to perform and now they are gone. Their memory and actions live on in the minds of those that knew them, at least for a while, but they soon fade as these people also die eventually. The same thing will happen to all of us. Humanity is like an ocean of waves crashing upon the rocks, the ripples slowly dissipating until long broken waves are forgotten.

this excerpt from Shakespeare seems to really ring true at the moment

Out, out, brief candle!
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more; it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.

I realize this view can be taken from more positive perspectives, and wrapped in pretty paper, but sometimes it's humbling to be aware of it. The old cliche to be in the moment has never felt so apt.

Hope everyone is getting something good out of their short time here

It's all true. But who will realize it? That person is an enlightened one IMO.
