Are theses pann subbs?
    #11210264 - 10/08/09 09:32 PM (8 years, 2 months ago)

Habitat:
found these in a grass pile in my nieghbors backyard

Gills:
the gills are a jet black and very dark looking brown color and are very close together

Stem:
the stem is very thin and a dark greyish color and seems hollow

Cap:
the cap is a light tan in the middle and darker around the sides it is kinda of shiny

Spore print color

Bruising:
Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.

Other information:
the mushrooms remind me of the smell of edible store bought mushrooms

some of the gills are eaten off partially and one completely im wondering if i can still eat the cap and stems even if some or all gills are missing in order to trip

heres some pics

Probably a good idea to wait for the spore print to get a proper id on each mushroom before eating.  Most of those mushrooms look a little too old for safe consumption, and if there are bugs in them you probably don't want to eat them.  When ever you pick a mushroom from the wild it is good to cut out all sections that contain bugs and try to pick mushrooms that haven't had the chance to get eaten by bugs yet.

The first pic doesn't look like a subb (cinctulus) IMO. Follow humboldt and stay away from the nasty ones, old and bugs.

wormy ones are fine as long as your willing to sit there with a toothpick and carefully extract every last one from the gills.
if not they will be devoured before u can dry them in time.

For real. I had a bunch I brought home one day. They all looked good but the next day half were a mess and the lil maggots were all over. I lost half the bunch to them bastards.

btw, your mushrooms could be a combination of panaelous cinctulus and panaelous foensecii, foes arent poisonous, although some people claim stomach discomfort after mistaking them for cinctulus and eating them, my friend ate about 100 foes and didnt bother him at all, he had a nice placebo affect though ...and normaly, when you fan dry them, as the mushroom drys out the buggs will leave it...Well thats what happened in most of my experiences. Cinctulus-Jet Black Print///Foes--DARK DARK Brown..

when it comes to eating cinctulus, id reccomend eating stems too, unless you just have an outstanding abundance of them. As far as proper dosage sizes go, im not too sure, but my guess would be 5 dry grams??
