Liberty cap help needed
    #11209449 - 10/08/09 05:19 PM (14 years, 6 months ago)

Hi, over the last few days me and a mate have been out hunting for lib caps for our first time. Judging from pictures and research (thanks for the great site) I am pretty sure that the mushrooms we found are the real deal, but would appreciate it if somebody could clear this up for me.

Since picking and bringing the mushrooms home I have laid them out on kitchen roll for about 48 hours to dry out. To my disgust, I found what I believed to be 3 dead maggots lying amongst the mushrooms when checking on their progress, I disposed of these and left the shrooms to dry further, this time also using warm air to blow over them.

I now have about 90 dry mushrooms but to be honest have no idea whether they are safe to eat, if that is they are liberty caps. I have included some pics, the close up shows the shrooms fresh, the rest are all after drying. (Sorry about the shite quality, I will be able to take some more if required)

Is there anyone here who could please shed a little light so that I have a better idea of what my situation is.
Is there anyway that i could tell if they are safe to eat?
As I am writing this I realise that I probably jumped in to quickly, not thinking about the whole process needed before getting high

I look forward to hearing your replies. Thank you very much

P.S. Mods please feel free to move this if it is in the wrong forum:thumbup:

Those are liberty caps and they are safe to eat even though the maggots tried to eat them too.

Sorted, thats good news.
Cheers for the quick reply.

So just because I found maggots doesn't mean they are contaminated?
Also, what would be the best way to store them dry? if say I was to save them for a more suitable time. I currently have them in a zipped bag.
Should I grind them?

Peace
