ID Request Please. Can't figure these guys out.
    #11208956 - 10/08/09 05:58 PM (8 years, 15 days ago)

Ok so I didnt pick any of these so I cant provide you with the usual identification request template. Any help would be great tho.

Ok  I found these guys growing by a few trees mainly in groups. I tried looking at all the different kinds of Panaeolus mushrooms and cant find a match. the caps are really bright almost yellow-brown. The gills were either black or very dark. The stems were very brittle and for the most part white. they looked hollow too, after a few fell apart in my hands. And the gills looked attached but very very far up the stem, near the top of the cap's underside. It was raining heavily so i didnt stay long to get enough good shots and they are sadly blurry from shaking from the cold. sry. didnt wanna ruin camera.

this is them in their habitat.

next up i found this massive shroom that reminded me of a big ass maple leaf. it was bigger than my hand and the stem was hard as ballz to break off. the caps edges curved upwards. other than this info i didnt stick around long cuz of heavy ass rain.

Later on i stumbled onto these guys. my camera was blurry from being wet and these were really hard to get a pic of bc they were like in a really tangled mess of trees.

Next i found what i nicknamed "macaroni on a log". there was tons of this stuff all over the log and it was simply gorgeous.

My last find i believe some1 else didnt cover up well. I was headed out of the forest and glanced down only to see a clump of these mushrooms laying in the mud. I discovered a few more patches of them nearby under a pine tree. ive never seen these b4. i was next to a horse trail allthough i doubt it mattered. they were growing out of what looked like just plain old dirt. the gills were attached to the stem.

First three are Coprinellus micaceus, but the rest... Sorry. Too close, too blurry, too much color, at least for me.

When they are little they are.

Pholiota, no.  Dacrymyces, probably.

i did sum searches on google and bing last night about the edibility, looking for recipes, etc, came across a post by sumone named "mollie" on sum random travel blog, claming they had eaten it before and the taste was "meh" .

i also came across a mushroom guide of some sort where the author said it wasnt worth eating bc after cooking them most of it evaporated.

oh well. ill just have to get alot then. even if most of it evaporates, with the right seasonings and stuff it could be a tasty 1 or 2 bite snack, or who knows, maybe even chop it and grind it up into its own dacrymyces seasoning.

Maybe make them into a salsa or bruschetta.

Or use them fresh as a garnish on a dessert with ice cream and chocolate and fried bananas with brown sugar burning rum.

Or candy them, use a recipe for candied orange peels.

I bet they are good in Tom Kha soup.

If you cook them right you will have the best Dacrymyces dish ever!

HAHAHAHA

Reminds me of myself a year ago. Any wild shroom can taste good if you're eager enough.
