Why do we need...
    #11208527 - 10/08/09 04:53 PM (8 years, 1 month ago)

Whey do we need senators and congressman?Really with internet why can't the American people vote on laws and issues via the internet.

Make a government ran isp only for voting.I mean I could see some of the house and senate tasks that would be needed but really does this country need these people in there, they're out of touch with real Americans.

Why do we allow giant corporations and billionaires that run them to run this county. Why don't we Americans who work for these assholes fire them a divide the pay through out the companies.

What the fuck does someone do with $40,000,000 a year salary really.Ok yea I'm broke and I'm mad but who else is too?We need a overhaul on this country's government and we need it soon.

This method of voting would discriminate against those who can not afford computers or have no access to the internet.

Not to mention that every issue would be decided in the heat of the moment by the most devoted fans.
Remember Sanjaya? What if we elected him Emperor for Life?

Plus, nobody is enough of an expert in everything to understand and vote on it wisely. Even an educated populace would do better with a layer of representation.

The logistics of that is insane.

Not to mention, we would need a new Constitution (or at least a massive amendment) since the one we have now dictates how we operate politically.

It's rough when ideas meet reality.

Not to mention you'd have huge issues with vote security.

A congress of a few hundred cannot even decide on things - you think 300 million people voting on their whims can maintain meaningful direction and policy?

There needs to be balance in the govt, and that includes balance between the whims of the masses and the plans of the powerful.  Either one alone would be crap.

This country was founded by men who did not want a true democracy, and the US continues this. We were too "stupid" to rule the country through everyone voting. Thus the power was reserved for all the rich men who announced they were running (and most of them originally just agreed they were in charge, no voting).

Political seats came with money and lots of perks even back in the day. Even postmaster jobs. So of course, they would not want to change this.

In reality no, we don't need them. However, the elite will never give up their positions or vote themselves out of their cushy jobs and give control back to the people.

True democracy is tyranny of the majority.  Fuck that, I prefer checks and balances.

Dollar a vote makes sense, get voters who care.
And no, it's not going to give elections to the rich- they don't need to buy votes one at a time.

I thought they had staff members for the same reason priests needed altar boys

That wouldn't be very good. Most people are uneducated and don't know how economic's work. Society would fail and we would all die.

How exactly does my position make things worse? People are already ignorant on the issues and so are the elected officials, so how does putting the staff members under the same (often failed) scrutinization as the canidates hurt? Most people wouldn't even pay attention to it.
