It's stupid to judge someone's level of education by what piece of paper they managed to wipe their ass with.

I've been in education for the last 16 years of my life. I have this year and another 2 left on my Masters (Mphys).
After that, possibly a postgraduate degree, right now, I'm unsure if I'll have any will to pursue education left in me .

I've come to realize that wisdom does not necessarily require knowledge.

Really? Why? So without the aid of government funded institutions no one can learn anything? Is this seriously your argument?

true that. but this is just in general and for shits and giggles. in general, an idiot does not make it through college...and you dont come out of college any dumber than you were previously. that's what i am basing this on, sure there are exceptions to that but you know what i mean

I'm currently in undergraduate studies.
It's relatively a pain in the ass, but I do believe that the time and effort is worth the education.
And RationalEgo, a man with a PhD is infinitely more intelligent than a high school drop-out, or simply a high school graduate for that matter. To think otherwise is a foolish claim.

I'd say everyone here is still learning, but intelligent enough to be considered in college. I'm still learning, that's for certain.

Depends on your definition of 'intelligence'. I consider some of my college lecturer's who were very highly 'educated' to be some of the biggest hypocritical ignoramuses I have ever had the misfortune of meeting.

I'm pretty sure it just depends on the subject matter.
Someone with a degree in psychology definately knows their shit. But psychology doesn't necessarily have anything to do with math. So if a highshcool graduate or dropout is a math genius there's the possibility that said graduate/dropout knows more that the individual with the college degree...it's all simply circumstantial.

Yes, but there is a reason why they are teaching, and not you. Simply put, their mental capacity is beyond yours. And for you to think that you are smarter, or wiser, than your professors is ultimately false.
And maybe the university you go to doesn't provide well-educated professors. That definitely doesn't mean they aren't smarter than you, though.
Every professor I have ever met, whether they be jackasses or bitches, were always filled with a myriad of knowledge. They received there PhD's from distinguished institutions, and I have faith in their abilities. Why question it?

very true indeed.
I can say without a doubt that I am more educated than many people I know who "got farther" in school. The educational system blows. Go to the fucking library and you will learn much more for much much less

I'm smarter than my wife and she went to college for 8 years. I'm smarter than my idiot friend who has a 4 year degree in archeology. Judging someone on how many hours they sat through lectures is not a accurate way to tell how smart they are. You do bring up a interesting subject tho. It reminds me of how much i hate know it all college students. "My professor said this, so obviously I'm right." No your not.
Not directed at you at all by the way. Just a general observation.
I was a combat engineer in the Marines. That doesn't mean i know shit. I value the things i learn in the real world WAY more than what someone learns in a classroom. I dropped out of college the minute i realized what a colossal waste of money and time it was. I make more than my wife does with her degree and i don't work as hard. I can fix anything you put in front of me even my car. Most people don't even remember what they learned in college, they just rely on that piece of paper to carry them.
College graduate smarter by default? I don't think so. Not even close.
If i wanted to master a certain skill i would finish a degree for a job. That doesn't mean i would be smarter than any of you. That means i specialized in a specific subject to get a degree in it. I might be better educated in that subject, but that in no way makes me generally smarter than anyone because of it.

I've dropped out of college twice.
The going did get tough but that wasn't the reason. The first was a shit course and I picked terrible subjects.
I was done with the whole thing when my uncle got onto me and said if I got a degree in this other course he'd get me a good job.
That sold it to me. I went back but I realised I didn't even like studying in school when I was there so I said fuck that for a game of soldiers.
I might have been better off but by now I'd be fucking insane. Books, books, projects, essays, reports, deadlines, fuck, fuck, fuck.
God help me,I'm going to get sick even thinking about it. I'm going to have nightmares tonight.
You can't base intelligence on a college education. Not to offend anyone but there are lots of idiots who happen to have sponges for brains who can get college degrees.
Book smarts. Some people are naturally intelligent whereas others learn the necessary parts out of books and have the information in their short term memory.
They could rattle the info off at the drop of a hat but they may not necessarily even fully understand what they are repeating. Like some sort of memory robot.
Ranting and raving again!
