2nd grow! UPDATE: 10/23

My first grow was in May/June and was a success, kinda. I only knew cultivation from the hour long video online of how to grow mushrooms. i realized it was not enough. ive been on the wonderful forum since. and i finally stopped being lazy and started up again.

I first boiled my jars.


I let WBS soak for 4 hours.


Then let it simmer for 20-30 minutes.


I then put the WBS in my jars and put poly fill in the cap and PC'ed for 1 hour.


I then scrapped some spores from a spore print into them in a sterilized bathroom (it worked last time, 1 out of 4 was contaminated  :shrug: )

Im just waiting for them to show some signs of growth. The jars were a little too full, i think.

1 jar i chucked right away, it had the dot mold. but the other 3 doing great!!!





are they too wet?

yeah its a pain in the ass to shake em up good enough when they are too full...especially when the spores are chillin all on top. Best of luck though sir!:thumbup:

If your jar is too full, there is a technique to get it shaken up. First, don't let the myc colonize too thickly, this will make it nearly impossible to break-up. Second get a bike tire, or something else to hit the jar on. With the jar at a constant orientation, rotate your arm with the jar in a circle, striking the tire once every revolution. This basically makes a tumbling motion which spins the grain inside the jar, even with less than an inch of open space at the top. To get good mixture, tumble the jar in various positions, on its side, rotated 90 degrees etc. The bike tire gives it that extra agitation to kick it around.
