Peyote legal?
    #11206984 - 10/08/09 12:50 PM (8 years, 16 days ago)

Hello!
Just wondering if anyone knows of the legal status on peyote in Ontario Canada? I heard something about it being 100% legal?
Thanks! :sun:

I think dried buttons are legal there, as they are specifically exempt (peyote) from the drug code

Erowid says mescaline and all containers of it are illegal except peyote.    This technically means all the trichocereus are banned if someone wants to push the issue.  (to the best of my knowledge, no one anywhere has ever landed in jail from trichs though)

Canada isn't much better, Once USA collapses we will be pretty fucked too. A lot of exportation/importation is done with USA, we are pretty much dependant on USA for our economy. Only cool thing about here is the laws seem way more relaxed, and there seems to be no real drug war. I doubt Salvia and all the plants DEA wants to ban now will ever get illegal here.

Exactly! Canada is awesome... We need to do the same thing Canada, Great Britain, and MANY other countries have done now and straight blanket-decriminalize drugs... There is no reason for drug users being put in prison, under tax-payer dollars when 80% and upwards of them are fully functional, employed human beings... Drug use is a phenomenon of HUMAN culture, not simply ANY country's culture...

all parts, dried or not.  i always interpreted Canadas drug code as unless you start stripping the mescaline from the plant, all parts of peyote are legal.  this means drying is legal as you are not taking the mescaline out.

either, you couldn't loose in court for dried buttons, cause the regulations are written so unclear.

and i agree, the whole canada drug freedom is all hype...its not really that free, its jsut not so monstrous as the US drug reg's....

You bring up a good point. Is it sad that to many of us Americans, 'drug freedom' is not being thrown in jail longer than violent criminals?

for a neat perspective check out what Portugal has been doing the last years with its drug policies...now there is a step in the right direction....but we dont tend to hear much about that kind of success in the western world...god forbid Europe did something right first lol....canada will wait and copy them and say its their idea, then the states will copy canada after bitching at them for a while and say its their idea, and so the ball rolls.

wanted to add before, as for canadian law and "any salt thereof".  it would seem that a logical line would be until you start to strip the salt from the botanical it is ok.  if you can still legitimately call your "substance" Peyote, then its good.  if it cannot be called peyote anymore, then maybe not.  dried plants can legitimately be called exactly that dried plants...tehy are still easily identifiable morphologically.  powder and slices is probabyl where things may start egtting gray in respect to this one plant, in this one country at present time

canada has not decriminalized drugs, it simply has a more relaxed, complacent view of them. Many ontario cops wont even write tickets for possession under 1/8th oz, and just confinscate the drugs/paraphenelia. (however, some will, so your not automaticlly safe)
