salvia humidity mechanism
    #11206079 - 10/08/09 08:41 AM (8 years, 14 days ago)

i have a vicks ultra sonic humidifier. it worked great humidifying mushroom chambers, but i was wondering if placing it near a salvia plant, would produce enough humidity for the plant.

maybe with this, you wouldn't have to build a humidity tent, and could keep the salvia humid as it grows tall next to a window.

Why not just put it in a large soda bottle for 3 weeks then acclimate it to ambient humidity? But yes, your humidifier will work if you choose to use it.

Yeah, is it really that bad having to put a dome over it? I don't really mind it myself... Cheap fix to a simple problem....

you only need humidity for cuttings and freshly shipped plants.

I'm now firmly of the belief that ALL the troubles people have with growing salvia is down to over analyzing it and fucking it up epically as a result.

I think you're right. Salvia is definitely one of those plants you can overlove. I give mine humidity for 3 weeks and then they're on their own -- none have a problem with regular humidity.

thanks for replies, i was thinking it would be more suitable for large plants. i can see why its not necessary for small cuttings. but you could have it running and not have to cover up multiple cuttings.

just thought that since i have one, might as well make use of it.

this thread which was about 10 posts down shows what happens when you stick salvia into mushroom conditions:

In short, it dies.
