 One massive network of minds

We were speaking in the IRC channel about the idea of connecting two humans by a data cable and being able to transmit data from one brain to another using it. Basically, if you look at the internet as it is now, it is a massive compliation of information from millions of millions of people all around the world - but there is still the barrier of language that is keeping us from being able to truly interconnect.
We are limited by our keyboard and mouse so-to-speak. But what if instead we one day were able to skip that step and communicate directly?
Can you imagine a network of interconnected minds? A singular brain basically?
Do you really think it's as far off as one might imagine?
All it would take is for two people to communicate with their minds over a wire, and it would take off like wildfire!
 Anyways just something to think about. Is such a concept really so far off?

Collective consciousness. The Borg.
I do think our technology is turning us more and more into a collective consciousness. Our devices called cell phones allow us to keep in contact with people all over there world, and we constantly do, we constantly share our thoughts and ideas with others this way, I see cell phones as the first step in a movement toward collective consciousness. It is only a matter of time before this thing we keep in our pockets and place against our faces is implanted directly inside of our brains. From there, we will be able to open up direct channels wih another mind, or enter mind rooms (chat rooms, multiple minds engaging together in this way). Maybe after a while it will all become one giant mind room.

We are connected already.
But until everybody is counciously aware of it and can use it, time will pass!
Some indian tribes used this kind of direct telephatic connection already.
Messages delivered from one mind to another without any helpin device.

i agree. people are already connected in ways far beyond our understanding. now this might not mean direct telepathic communication, but it definitely is very mysterious and constantly happening.

This would be really cool but I believe we already naturally do this through dreaming. Sure you could develop the technology, we're not far off with the newest neurotechnology, but how about just getting into lucid dreaming and share dreams? There is a biological purpose why we sleep the half of our time spending in dreamland, dreamland is like the internet of the consciousness of the earth. We surf the EM-field of earth with our own EM-fields. Sounds crazy, but yeah, natures technology is much more advanced then we might think. Where do your instincts come from? Through this very same way. It's no coincidence all humans share the same emotions and body language regardless of race and genes, education, environment, etc... we are already one massive network of minds.

I believe or minds are WAY more powerful that we can even comprehend in this existence, most people just havent figured out the key to unlock those powers

I don't know that it's even necessary for us to communicate with each other directly. Different parts of the brain all utilize their own unique methods to preform their given tasks, and the mind itself seems to emerge indirectly out of all the different integrated systems of the body.
In some sense you could even say that the internet itself through all of our collective input is conscious in its own way, it's just difficult for us to realize because it's so far removed from our everyday perspective.

The ideal consciousness. When we dream we are connected without as many boundaries compared to waking consciousness. Sometimes it seems the five scenes are the biggest illusion. The Internet could be developed into the Earth Mind. We may have some problems with it. Technology isn't fundamentally bad, but some people who create it are. What would happen if we all wired our brains into the Internet, and we have a software glitch? Or some kind of mad man utilizes the Mind for destruction? It is only when society becomes more spiritually developed that we could handle the future Internet you speak of.
