Ganoderma lucidum cultivation, a few questions
    #11203527 - 10/07/09 10:54 PM (8 years, 9 months ago)

I ordered 2 spawn bags and a reishi syringe from Sporeworks. They came today (they threw in a free syringe, too!) and I can't wait to inoculate but am interested in a few things first.

It says on their site to use 1-3 cc of spore solution per bag. I am assuming it's a guideline for all types of gourmet/medicinal mushrooms. Is this enough for reishi? Each syringe is completely filled with 10 cc. If I use 3 cc per bag out of 1 syringe, how long will the rest remain viable if stored correctly? The syringes are the best I have ever seen, btw. Dark brown and obviously loaded with spores.

Second question, what is optimum temperature for incubation? I have two large bins with a fish tank heater in between and figured 74 -78 degrees to be ok, but I wanted to double check.

Finally, it also says on their site that it can take 1-2 months before fruiting. Is this accurate in your experience using this method?

I am guessing you have reishi LC rather than actual spores, so just a small couple of squirts will do the trick.

Reishi's like it warm, I would say anything over 70 would be optimum. Try not to dip below 60.

Reishi is very aggressive and will colonize grain in short order and colonize sawdust even faster. It is the fruit development that takes such a long time. They will begin growing quickly but will develop to maturity veeeerrrrryyyy slllloooowwwwwllly.
