Here are the dried up remains of the first gym hunt, I have not managed to consume any yet so no feedback on that yet =/
The dark dry chunks were from larger lutes with open caps while the small lighter one was younger, but I think still a lute.
I went back to the log (forgot my camera...damn) but harvested more of what I believe are gymnopilus luteus. You can see the pics, I have them drying now and will chop up the bigger caps into slices once rusty spore prints drop.
Here's the gallery of the aftermath from today's hunt
I'm worried about the black circle on top of the one, but other than that these all look like lutes to me

Nice job, Bob. What would you say is the largest cap width?

SWEET! Glad to hear you think they're definitely lutes, I've had my hopes up. I don't know anything as far as potency yet because my schedule's been packed with tests but Friday....oh man
I had 2 concerns tho, one seemed significantly darker than another its size (look at the contrast in the last pic) Also the one has a dark patch one top, but I could always throw it out to be safe, it looks like my gym supply will be decent enough
BTW, I'm from PA and it's gym season here...I advise those around me to go out and hunt!!
EDIT - The largest cap width was maybe 3-4 inches across, these are not the Big Laughing Gyms (spectabilis) but they're still pretty big.
I forgot to put some sort of size reference in my photos...a quarter or something would have helped

Yeah, congrats. Those are big Lutes! I don't find them that big very often.

Nice!!! you kinda have some older mature specimens - which won't be too potent
They are best taken before or jus when the veil starts to break
Any larger and you just eating alot more to get any effects With what you've got - try 12-13gr dried - if making tea - use a zip a person - and see how it goes, please post back once you try them!!

So are you saying the ones on the right will be more potent than the left in this pic?
I'll finally be done with tests and shit tomorrow...off to a 3 hour power nap then wake up to adderall binge / study session. College -__________-
I can feel the hahas on the way

Hm, in regards to my last post SWIM consumed the 6 lutes on the right that looked younger (more potent?) and did not feel much off baseline. SWIM doesn't feel nausea 1 day later but is concerned about slow acting death shrooms. SWIM hopes what he had was a light dose of lutes (and not deadly look alikes) since SWIM doesn't own a scale and was guessing dosage. Finally, SWIM did notice some mild CEV's but wasn't sure if they were forced (placebo) or shroom induced. SWIM did feel a bit heavier and comfortable on the couch but no real open eyed visuals.
I'm hoping one of the following or possibly a combination
1) Specimens correctly identified but not very potent
2) Dosage too low to distinguish from baseline
anyway, hoping SWIM isn't fucked...
peace

your buddy is fine - im sure of what you have pictured above!!
And all of your collections look a bit old - for eating gyms that is
They will get bigger and bigger and bigger - and in general the gyms aren't super potent
But closed cap pins (at the largest size ) are by far the most pretty and potent
Remember for next season - they fruit in the spring too
Peace bro

I do wonder at times whether keeping gyms logs moist would encourage further fruiting in the present season. It could be a nice way to maximize our yields.

Yes, you can water logs, or in my experience any kind of mushroom in the wild, to increase the number of flushes or the number of mushrooms. That includes logs of Gyms. During dry periods I take a watering can with me to river systems. I get water from the river and water the mushroom substrate. It's a pain in the ass, but it works.
