Phillies up 5-0 on the Rox, with Hamels set to go in Game 2. If I'm the Rockies, I'm pretty damn nervous about this situation going into the 8th inning.

The Rocks basically needed Jimenez to shut them down in game one to have a realistic shot at winning. The Phillies rotation depth is just so much better.

I think the best baseball we'll see in these first few days of the division series will be game 2 of the dodgers/cards (Kershaw/Wainwright) and game 1 angels/sox (Lester/Lackey). Another thing, why the Rockies aren't starting Ianetta in the playoffs and haven't been starting him for 3 months is fucking ridiculous.

Yeah Jimenez just failed at shutting down the Phils and they used 3 relievers today. Besides today, I'm not worried about the rest of the games. The Phils starters will pull through for us. As for the NLCS, I have no idea who we will play, but I know it will be a good series.

The fact that the best Phillie's relievers could probably pitch in every game for the rest of the series because of Cliff Lee's CG is huge. The Phillie's have a massive advantage now, as do the Yanks. The Yankee's, while being the best team, also get to face the weakest al team that made it into the playoffs and all the the Twins relievers were used yesterday, as was their top starter. CC Sabathia v Brian Duensing? Fucking ridiculous advantage for the Yankees the entire series. Add the fact that the Red Sox have creamed the Angels in the ALDS seemingly every year for the past decade, and it looks like the best division series will be the Cardinals v Dodgers.

I wouldn't be so quick to hand the Red Sox the series over the Angels, those were different teams.  The Angels might steal 900 bases against those sad sack catchers.  I don't generally think much of stolen bases but this could get really ugly.

Beyond Lackey, their starters are kind of iffy. Weaver may be fatigued, and I know better than to trust Scott Kazmir, ever, regardless of how well he's been throwing lately. He's sketchy.

After talking to whatthefunk I honestly don't believe that it's a puppet account of whattheheck. I apologize for the fuck up.

So what the hell are the Yankee's going to do with Phil Hughes next year? He's been utterly ridiculous as a reliever, but his upside is about #2 starter, which is more valuable to a team than a good closer.

He has certainly excelled in a relieving role this season. However there's no way that they will keep a guy like Hughes in the pen. They kept him there this season to give him some big league experience (grooming) rather than sending him back down to the minors. I think it was a great move. He was obviously not ready to start in the bigs. But yeah, the kid is a born starter and that's where he will be next season.

Using him mostly as a reliever this year threw his innings off track completely. He'll only be able to safely throw >150 innings next year. He won't be able to hold up for a full season as a starter for another two years, just so they could use him as a shutdown reliever for one. Not only was it a waste of development time, but he's more likely to get hurt in the future.

I didn't say that he was definitely going to get injured, only that he was more likely to. Young pitchers who experience a big jump in innings get hurt a lot. It's science, brah.
