Why would somebody be advised to lower their RH?
    #11200710 - 10/07/09 03:34 PM (8 years, 2 months ago)

If we want RH as high as possible (95-100%) in the fruiting chamber, why have I read on numerous posts where people are advising others to lower their RH?

They wouldn't, at least not if I was giving the advice.

I might advise to increase fresh air exchange, but not to lower humidity.  If you could combine bright light, lots of fresh air, and 100% humidity(such as a warm, foggy day when the sun is first coming out) you'd have an explosion of mushrooms.

I think I have seen people wanting to lower their RH when they get fuzzy pieces of mycelium on the stems of growing mushrooms (towards the base). But after what RR said, I am guessing this is an effect of not enough FAE?

I have no idea for sure, but in my experience, whenever I see someone ask about how to get rid of fuzzy mycelium on mushrooms, that's when I see people suggesting to lower RH. That's just what I've seen though!

you can slightly lower your rh to promote a little more evaporation of water droplets from the surface of the mycelium, which is a big pinning trigger.

but this isnt a method that is really utilized in the area of cultivation that we are discussing

I've had that problem too, and I find it to be directly relative to high humidity. The "explosions" I've had were from very high humidity for the pinset. Taking it down gradually as they mature gives much prettier fruits IMO.
