PNW backyard fungi pics! pt. 1
    #11196756 - 10/06/09 11:03 PM (8 years, 1 month ago)

Hey everyone! I just moved to the PNW, very close to seattle and have noticed MANY fungi growing EVERYWHERE. Before the sun went away today I tried to snap some macro shots for you possible enjoyment. I have many different kinds growing in the backyard, and plenty more around the island.

If anyone thinks any of the photographed mushrooms are possibly edible or active please let me know! Thank you, look out for more pics tomorrow, and enjoy!

Last picture for tonight. I have some interesting looking orange and red mushrooms to show pictures of tomorrow, and also plan to pick up a field guide soon so I can share my active finds. Happy hunting and hope you enjoy!

I wanted to add those were thick stemmed, even though they looked very similar to all the others. And most of them seemed to have died prematurely and became completely black.

First two pictures look like an old chanterelle, if it is I still wouldn't eat it.. it looks kinda old.

I'd need to see the gills better.

I'm back!

I'm going to start off with what I believe are some of the exact same ones I showed earlier.

I'm cropping as I upload so it's easier for my brain, but I do have a couple new specimen today, and unfortunately due to not being able to snap shots earlier in the day, I did not get to photograph all I wanted to.

Alright third batch....I am unsure if these are 2 different species but I will post them together, in the order I took them. There may be more of them separate in other photos.

These are cool and uncommon!  They appear to be Cystoderma fallax!

The last batch you posted (the really brittle ones with the striate caps) are a Parasola species.

This is the last batch....I hope anyone who looks enjoys. I enjoy taking the pictures but nothing I have seems too exotic. I plan to expand my searches and hopefully will find something neat very soon. Until then....enjoy these pictures, and the spiders.

Sorry I haven't updated! Had to do house hunting, I encountered many, many different and interesting fungi along the way, but unfortunately was not focused enough on them to take pictures. The home I have placed an offer on had many in the surrounding area, as well as on the property so if I moved I hope to share pictures/prints of those.

I am sorry for this bump without pictures but I have identified 2 different species in my current backyard as possible Pan Subbs (awaiting spore print), and an active Psilocybe species, which I was waiting to let mature.

I only bump this right now because the temperature is meant to drop down to 32 degrees tonight and I have been reading conflicting points about what this will do to the fruiting fungi outside, and the mycelium. I already hastily (before reading anything), picked most anything that was even close to being mature, but left all the Psilocybe and  pins.

Should I be attempting to salvage whatever I can , and how would I go about this? If not, then I feel stupid for already picking what I have.

I will upload some pictures of the immature fruits I have picked in the next hour and set up a proper ID request. And hopefully tomorrow morning if they do not all die, I will have another, likely species to properly request an ID for. There may also be a third species I will request for that is likely active, but I am assuming for now it was just a variance in one of the other two.

Thank you for any responses, and sorry if this post is not in compliance with the rules, I couldn't quite figure that out either. :frown:
