Solaris

A week ago I watched Solaris in theaters. It was very well done, very atmospheric and ambient and emotional, and pretty. But I didn't understand it very well. So I rented the original 1971 Russion version of the film. Now that I've seen both I understand the new version much better. It's a very interesting movie, I recommend it. The basic plot is that a psychologist is sent to a spaceship orbiting the distant planet Solaris because the crew is reporting weird experiences. When he gets there he finds, among other things, his wife who has been dead for several years. What if you had another chance with the person you loved and lost? What if you didn't remember them accurately in all the years since you last saw them? And it's not as explicit in the new film, but when we search the universe for Contact, are we really expecting to explore space for other entities or do we just wish to expand earth infinitely?

I give Solaris three shrooms

ummmm...
read a fair amount of lem's works back in the early 70s, but after 30 years some of it starts to fade into the general background blur  ...

I just saw that, I thought it was good. Although, I can see why it would get a lot of mixed reviews.
