How can I make my project unsuitable for trich to grow on?
    #11195899 - 10/06/09 08:48 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

I can see why people call it the mean green.  My first time growing and it happened a day before my fruits began popping up.  Am I safe to still fruit?

But back to the subject at hand.  How can I prevent trichoderma / make trichoderma unsuitable for my project.  I suspect that I improperly cased and left some of my substrate uncovered.  OR the vermiculite producers are lying when they said they sterilized the vermiculite. I am doing rye with verm for res-effect.

edit: can i spread crushed up oyster shell (CaCO3) on my casing and can i mix my substrate with it?  Also found out to remove wood type compost from casing.

substrates don't contam unless you 1. did not sterilize/pasteurize them correctly or 2. your spawn was contamed. not covering them all the way will not affect them. casing also need to be pasteurized or sterilized.

It has been said that sterilizing either will make it more favorable for trich. Also excessive water too.

sterilizing is good if you have a completely sealed bag of substrate you with to inject with liquid culture
as long as it is not exposed while colonizing to any outside air and it colonizes 100% you will not have any contams

i've read in RR's notes that if u sprinkle a little bit of hidrated lime over your casing layer, it will create a high ph zone wich is unsuitable for contaminants like trich to grow on.

ive had trich infect a substrate and covered that area with salt and lime in generous amounts, after cutting out the section and a large area outside of it followed by bleach. trich will either be there all over your grow or it will have not been able to find a suitable area. trich is all over the place adding something later is not going to beat it once its already been there.

If it sporelates , heck, even before that, than its too late already.  It has spread all over the growing medium.  I tried cutting away and disinfecting. Came back a day later.  I can't even find a decent picture of trich mycelium on this forum.

trich mycelium, not matured trich. As in when the trich mycelium is purely white.
