freshly birthed cake goes greenish blue
    #11195785 - 10/06/09 08:30 PM (8 years, 11 months ago)

so i never had this happen ever before, so i have 10 brf cakes in a shotgun FC, some are fine, others are fruiting, but there is 2 that were birthed 7 days ago and there is no pins whatsoever, but the cakes are turning greenish blue, NOT like trich, but almost like the entire cake was handled and bruised.  i never touch my cakes, so what would be the cause of this?  i put new perlite in the terrarium once the cakes were ready to be birthed.  any reasons why this would happen?  the shotgun FC has a fan rigged up to an electonic timer so that it gets aired out 4 times a day for 5 minutes at a time.  on top of that i mist them twice a day.  what is happening to my cakes?

might help but if it is somehow the actual cake might have to take different measures...

i dunked and rolled them (soaked for 16 hours)  i could always redunk them, they havent pinned since they have only been in there for a few days.  wierd though because one of the other strains i did is fruiting beautifully.

mist more, and avoid that fan blowing directly onto the cake, just a minute of that can void any misting you did to that point

alright thanks for the input, so i guess im gonna dunk the cakes overnight, cover up some of the holes and have the fan barely blow air onto the side of the fruiting chamber

leave the holes, just mist more often.
in the right places holes actually help maintain humidity, and allow air exchange even when not fanning.
one of the main pinning triggers is fresh air evaporating water droplets off the surface of the mycelium, so the more fresh air at all times the better.
