Gyms and Puffballs ID assist.

Habitat:
Well they have some slightly odd habitats to me, but welcome to the world of fungus, these things are crazy.  I found the large brown puffball in a field, its smooth and when cut, its solid white like bread inside. edible? The smaller brown puffball was on a trail, when cut..its also like white bread. edible? and finaly, the ones i think could be gyms, where growing in a very odd place, it was in a grassy area next to where mulch was spread, maybe it could have been on wood underneath the grass, idk.

Gills:
Yellowish orange.

Stem:
Looks alot like a boletes stem, yellow with fine lines and orangish.

Cap:
Cap was orangish to a pale yellow almost. It had what looked like small scales, idk how you would describe it.

Spore print color:
In process, fairly confident that its rusty brown.

Bruising:
on 1 the bruising is very obviouse, as shown in the picture, its a greenish blue, thats the only one that bruised.

Other information:
The Possible Gymnopilus Spectabilis was very bitter in flavor.

There are gyms everywhere this time of season, but these are the first iv ever found that were growing on a grassy lawn type area.

yup yup - id say your finds are the true BIG Laughing Gyms!! Like in my sig pic

ive only seen a few pics of them growing from a grassy area or lawn - with the wood burried underneath!

Yup yup - its not like other psilo fungus
gyms have many un-named similar alkaloids to psilocybin and psilocyn
Greenish veils are a great way to know if your collections are active or not
Also remember that lil pinners are also the best bruising indicators!!
If bruising greenish blue- they contain a small amount of psilocybin and psilocyn plus the other close relatives:wink:

n - im no expert on puff balls - i couldn't positively id from your pics and info - but from what i know the younger ones are edible if when sliced they are whitish inside like in your one pic - - - but just be sure of your finds - do some more searching and goodluck hunting bro!!

If you deem them edible please report back how they tasted
