i have a sword in my room and i was playing with it today, anyone here know how to fight properly with one or know any good online guides to learn?

I found a website that had a few vids on it, but it seemed more towards the history of different styles, so I left that one out. Google it up my friend.

I'm pretty sure sword fighting is down the line a bit... maybe some basic martial arts training before you go whipping a sword around?

edit: actually i'm wrong. bushido is the way of the warrior, kendo is the way of the sword.

it just for exercise and because i already own one, and the off chance i decide to camping in bear country and have to take a shit in the middle of the night

then you should know that Kenjutsu is swordmanship, Iaijutsu is drawing the sword under combat stress, Notojutsu is resheathing the sword

wrap the bottom of the hilt with your three little fingers, gripping the side with them, your thumb along the top and do the same with your other hand.
pull pack your low hand as you guide the blade down with your high hand.
perform basic cut x 800 times.

Why does everyone immediately go for all the asian stuff? If you want to study some kind of sword technique as a hobby there are plenty of western styles too.

We used to go at it with kendo sticks like that when I was a teenager. Those things hurt like crazy when you get hit.
