Hello and first ID request - Gyms

Hi everyone, I decided to take up mushroom hunting recently, and I have been lurking here reading through FAQs and archives. So first I just wanted to say thanks for all of the helpful information.
I've been hunting and taking lots of pics, so I thought I'd post my first suspected Gymnopilus find.
Habitat: Found growing from a fallen hardwood close to a stream in a wooded area.
Gills: Yellow to orange, becoming rusty orange with spores. I am going to try and say they are attached/adnate, and close to crowded, but i have no idea really - am I close?
Stipe: Firm, fibrous, woody. Pale yellow with well-formed annulus stained rusty orange with spores.
Cap: Yellow to orange, broadly convex(?), slightly wavy. Smooth and dry, and I would say they have small fibrils on the cap surface. Flesh yellowish inside.
Spore Print: Rusty orange, lots of spores.
Scent: Very noticeable, pleasant smell. Cinnamon/nutmeg, fruity sweet.
Taste: Only slightly bitter, but I also only tasted a tiny bit.
Location: Northern West Virginia.
Other: The more lightly colored group was in full sunlight, while the other was shaded by vegetation near the side of the log. They seem to be identical in all other respects, including the very distinctive smell.
The lower mushroom covered in spores:
Well, there they are. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

When it's dry, the best places to hunt are near streams, rivers and lakes.

Nice gyms.
Those are the same kind that I find in Florida quite often!

I know where I could go pick about a ton of these. Are they active? If so about what is a dose? I was out the other day and picked about 20 to take pictures of them and, they made my finger tips orange. I chewed a small piece of one and, it tasted pretty bad. Compared to cubes.

I think wiscokid may be the best to ask about dosing these.
The calculator says 37.2 grams fresh to hit a level 3 of Gym Purpuratus...different species I know.
I know where to find pounds of these kind of gyms though...I will try them one day.
Look what wiscokid said in this thread...
Quote:
They aren't just full of psilocybin and psilocyn - their magic is in the un-named closely related alkaloids found within
They are something very unique and pleasant Well worth a few mosquito bites!!
Where are ya wiscokid? can you enlighten us on dosage of G. Luteus?

i dont have a scale. I cut them up into little pieces then put them in a measuring cup. 7-8 cups for a pretty intense experience.
how big is the largest cap in the last pic?

I would assume slow boil. 7-8 cups seems pretty intense indeed.

eat them. i only cut them up and put them in cups as a weigh to measure the amount. i have a level 1 trip on 3 cups. I usually need a little extra compared to most people.
i have eaten 35g wet of blg pins and only reached level 1.

Thanks guys. Vjp, the largest cap was about 10cm+, and the four shrooms came to about 11g dry.
I have two more suspected Gym spots that I will post pics of later, and if they are legit I should have enough to sample and report back on potency.

yo - those do look like g. luteus
just older nasty ones
best to take them as closed-cap pinners if you wana get hi!!!
You will tend to see more bruising too
Good luck man - eat a whole shit ton of those old big ones
Seriously it sounds like alot- but with big old dried ones - 25gr could end up being mild even if you could stomach them down.....
Remember the tips- and your logs - for next season!!

Being on a palm would be an uncommon substrate for G.luteus. Got closeup pics of these? Could be another active gym more unique to Florida.
