Sounds to me like your dung was too moist, causing everything to slow down, you`ll probably find your mushrooms are water logged as well.
harvest one and feel it, squeeze it.
I bet they`re water logged.
Try to leave your terrarium open for 30 minutes whenever you fan.

are you sure the humidity didn't drop? maybe while they were in the vulnerable early stages of pinning.

If the mycelium colonized the dung, it had to be moist, well it'd be very hard for the poo to dry out enough to cause harm.  Poo holds on to moisture pretty damn well, often times too well, I think that Deralyd is correct, I think the poo is over saturated.

As for why the straight poo is doing poorly, while the poo/straw in the same fruiting chamber is doing fine, well IME, straw seems to act almost like a vermiculite and it keeps the poo "airy".  So I think that the straw/poo combo was able to shed enough of its moisture to just the right amount to allow for a good flush.

Or I could just be retarded.

i agree with you 100% on poo, yeah, it holds water almost too well...more than anything else i've seen. there may have been a moisture content problem with his straight poo substrate, but i was thinking maybe his casing layer(50/50+ in this case) may have gotten too dry. maybe that's why they grew up from the sides(more humid in the gaps). i don't know, what is your guess, Fiend?

I thought that when fruits grow from the sides its a sign of too high humidity?  I don't really know, I never had that happen to me.  But anyways, usually, at least IME, when fruits stop growing completely, its either one of two things, poor air exchange or excessive moisture.

Since he said that the straw/poo combo in the same chamber did fine, I don't think the poo could dry out and the poo/straw be alright (I think both would dry out if that were the case).  But as I mentioned above, and Derrayld confirmed, I may just be retarded.

My question exactly. it seemed that you said in your original post-

"Now in the same terrarium, I have a bed of just dung, about the same amount of dung that was in the other one just without the straw."

Which tells me right away your not going to do as well just cause your working with half the stuff. Also, when something does well on one thing does not mean it will automatically do well on something else right?

Wrong
Dung and dung/straw generally perform very similarly.
So as we've said the issues where related to moisture or an overly wet substrate.

That happened to me, I thought perhaps not enough humidity, but there was heaps. The casing was mysteriously dry though. I figured out that it was because I had this light on top of my terrarium that was on for too long (12/12) whiched caused it to dry out.

This is one possible reason, though you say that conditions were the same as when you had that really good casing, so I don't know, It's just a suggestion.

What sort of lighting do you have?
