Sacred spots?
    #11191223 - 10/06/09 02:13 AM (8 years, 1 month ago)

Went searching on Friday and ran accross this fence that was made out of rose with thorns and some ribbons and feathers tied to it. Anyone else see any of these? Is there some rule of ethics as to marking ones teritory?

Almost looks like it spells something.  Middle one looks like a gateway.  Was it in the middle of nowhere?  Hope it's not a memorial...

Are there rose bushes growing in that area, if not someone must have carried those branches in for a reason, I don't think anyone who was just playing around would carry in thorny branches just to make that!

Kinda creepy.  If looks to me like it may have been used for some sort of ceremony.  Natives, Cult, or kids.

Creepy.  There's either a ton of shrooms nearby, cannabis growing nearby, or a giant sinkhole just behind the monument.

I went out about two weeks prior and there were no markers, but I did notice where someone had place three id sticks in the middle of some trees. It looked like someone had made a marker because all the sticks were new and with out moss. Everything else was covered with moss so the sticks stuck out. Then I go back and here is this weird fence thing, it looked cool at first then the more I looked at it, it became creepy. About fifty feet away from it there was a tree with feathers on it with some strings attached to some limbs and some large wood beads attached to the stings. I looked for mushrooms and there were many Russula and a few lobster and a ton of false chanterelles but no actives. It might have been a native american spot. As for rose bushes close they are everywhere out there, but it did take some work.

It's more than likely not Native American.  It's some kind of freak, cult, Satanic, weirdo, New Age bullshit, or Native American wannabe (take your pick) nonsense. I really wish people would leave their religion out of the forest.  I don't want to see altars to Gaia anymore than I want to see statues of the Virgin Mary.  We get this shit from time to time, normally close to Halloween or in the Fall.  Here's an "altar" we found last year.  This summer someone unturned some flats rocks in the creek to make them look like gravestones.

That kind of crap makes me appreciate the empty beer cans and used rubbers.

Not anymore it doesn't.  Everyone has their preferences.  I prefer the forest undisturbed.

true, they could have disassembled everything I suppose  Anyway I would rather have a human piling up a few sticks in the woods for next year's wood lovers than humans doing what we usually do, consuming.

I agree with Mr M. here - I don't like artificial disturbances in the first (unless its really cool).  One time someone put bones all over in obvious places and I thought it was ugly and put them back in normal places, seriously angering some pagans that I was hiking with.

In this case I would probably add to it - Seems like it could use some beer cans or other litter to offset the  symbolic aspect of the rose thorns.
