I used to respect The History Channel

As thoughtful and informative. Now they are cluttering it up with 2012, Nostradamus, UFO and Bermuda Triangle crap just to garner audience share.

It is one thing to present these myths from a historical persepective, but now they present these things as factual with zero counterpoint. :puke:

The main objective for any television broadcaster is to promote material that will attract a large audience. These topics you have mentioned are extremely popular among the general population which is why so much attention is being focused on them. It's basically common sense to initially dismiss these examples you have given as ludicrous. There are very good reasons why so many people are willing to reexamine these matters and look upon them from a serious perspective. If they were nothing more than just crazy delusions of the human imagination as you implied, there wouldn't be such a large audience interested in these matters. In fact, there would probably be no audience at all. There is a lot of scientific evidence or other compelling indications that are in favor of these things being a reality. Basically what I'm saying is, these things are being broadcasted because there is more to them then just hearsay and outlandish theories.

Nice 'appeal to the masses' fallacy. Like so many that want to participate here, it is too much trouble to read and understand the logical fallacies sticky thread so necessary to philosophical debate.

I just got done watching ancient astronauts.
Have you seen that one ?

Its about ancient civilizations of this earth that have built some amazing structures and most of the show was based on examining these structures and correlating that with any other historic records of the civilization.
There were some crazy theories..

But Its true.. they really have no proof.
Much of it is assumed..
its all theory.

but when we're dealing with an issue that nobody can figure out.. one has to wonder why better efforts weren't made.

I mean the implications of these findings are amazing.. and even if they weren't i think we could greatly benefit from learning something about humans just like us from thousands of years ago.

Its information that can be utilized in many areas of science ..

So ..
after having amazing results in the field of technology ourselves.. it would seem very obvious to me that someone would use this to figure out whats going on.. and how the fuck these 'primitive' people made architectural structures so precise and long lasting that we 'allegedly' couldn't do, with our technology, in the same amount of time as it took them - according to historical records.

so i understand trying to acknowledge only information that has physical evidence , facts behind it..
i just dont understand why they dont exist in some cases..

I agree.  I had conversation about this with a few friends not too long ago.

They do present a counterpoint, but all they do is bring in a skeptic and make him/her seem like they are just boring and stuffy, and they only show the skeptic for like 1 or 2 minutes and hardly mention their point again.

I too lost a lot of repect for History and Discovery Channel after they started running all those BS shows about monsters, ghosts and UFO's.  They could at least present these topics with a skeptical attitude.

I get especially annoyed when the history channel promotes bible history that has no historical basis other than the bible. It's religion, plain and simple--not history.
